Molly on the Shore Irish Reel set for Military Band Excerpts below are used by permission of GIA Publications, Inc., and are from "Teaching Music Through Performance In Band," Volume 3. Molly On The Shore is a setting of two reel tunes, the first being entitled "Molly On The Shore" and the second being "Temple Reel." Neither tune was collected by Grainger; his sourse for both melodies was The Complete Petrie Collection Of Ancient Irish Music, collected by Sir Charles Villiers Stanford. All in all, there are no less than 1,582 melodies in the collection. In the setting, Grainger strove to imbue the accompanying parts that make up the harmonic texture with a melodic character not too unlike that of the underlying reel tune. Instrumentation: Piccolo, Flutes, Oboes, Clarinets, Bassoons, Sarrusophone, Saxophones, Trumpets, Horns, Trombones, Euphoniums, Tubas, String Bass, Timpani, Percussion. Includes score and parts.
