Zack Corpus

Hailed for his “beautiful” and “expert” playing, Zack Corpus, a Kansas native, has entertained a diverse career as a performer, chamber musician, and educator.

He has performed across the United States and internationally, including Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. He holds the position of principal tuba with the Shoals Symphony Orchestra and the Alabama Winds, one of the southeast’s premier wind ensembles, invited to perform most recently at the Western International Band Clinic in Seattle, WA and the Midwest International Band and Orchestra clinic in Chicago, IL.

He has received numerous accolades for his playing, advancing as a finalist in competitions of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association and the prestigious Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Competition. As an avid supporter of tuba and euphonium chamber music, Mr. Corpus has performed with the North Texas Euphonium Choir, under the baton of Dr. Brian Bowman, and the award-winning iTuba Quartet. He is passionate about expanding the tuba beyond its classical roots, establishing the North Texas Tuba Jazz Collective, revitalizing the charts of Rich Matteson and other low brass jazz pioneers. His arrangements for tuba/euphonium ensemble can be heard on the albums Axis and Tubas in Love released by the University of Memphis Bottom Line ensemble.

Corpus earned his Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas, Bachelor of Music from Kansas State University, and is ABD for his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Memphis. His primary teachers include Phillip Black, Steven Maxwell, Donald Little, Brian Bowman, and Kevin Sanders.
