Le Bestiare (The Bestiary) is a work from Poulenc's playful and campy early phase, setting five French poems by Appolinaire, one of Poulenc's close friends and collaborators. Each poem is a portrait of a different zoo animal sung by a woman's voice with playful instrumental accompaniment. This edition, a modern reprinting of the faithful original edition, includes one full score, as well as parts for each instrument (two violins, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, and bassoon).
