One of the earliest champions of Italian chamber music was Luigi Picchanti. Picchanti was born on August 29, 1786, in Florence, where he was later an instructor of composition and music history at the Conservatory. Before embarking upon his career as an instructor of theory, Picchanti was a famed guitar virtuoso, undertaking numerous well-recieved tours throughout Europe. He died in Florence on October 19, 1864. This trio was first published in 1825. Unfortunately, neither the manuscript nor a copy of the first edition is able to be located. The source used in preparing this new edition was a version from the library of the Conservatory in Bern, Switzerland.
