Description

The Concertino for Clarinet and Chamber Orchestra by Alberto Guidobaldi was commissioned in 2019 by Kathleen Jones, principal clarinetist of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and professor at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. This work was premiered during the “2019 Clarinet Fest” in Knoxville, TN, by Kathleen Jones (soloist) and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra directed by Aram Demirjian. The piano reduction that is included here was done by the composer.

The melodic material of Guidobaldi’s Concertino for Clarinet is essentially modal, and the harmony is mainly quartal. This peculiar combination generates a pleasant musical language that is never clashing or too strident. The musical forms chosen for this work express a rigorous respect for the music of the past.

Total duration approximately 12 minutes.
