Written in 1996 at the request of Bruce Leek, the eminent recording engineer, American Sketches is a concerto in five movements for saxophone quartet. Symbolic of the vast diversity to be found in the United States, the first four movements are inspired by a musical style of a particular ethnic origin, with each featuring a different member of the quartet. The last movement brings the ensemble together and recapitulates all the material previously heard. To Bruce Leek, Douglas C. Monroe, and the Capitol Quartet. Score only.
