Lament for an Unknown Infant Victim of War was completed around Memorial Day in May, 1979. While this is a holiday which turns attention toward military victims of battle, with the laying of wreaths at the tomb of an unknown soldier, this Lament is dedicated to those seldom remembered but most innocent victims of society's wars throughout history--its children. Utilizing a wide pallet of souhnd resources, the four saxophones individually as well as in combination render the lament for an unknown child, expressing some of the delicacy, anger, and mourning that might be reflected upon as one ponders the ultimate tragedy of it all. Reverberations, accentuations, and backgrounds are provided by the piano strings. (This work was composed for and premiered by the Aeolian Saxapgone Quartet at the Sixth World Saxophone Congress in Evanston, Illinois June 29, 1979). Instrumentation: If only one player is used, as much of both parts as possible should be covered. Includes 4 scores. Parts furnished loose to facilitate page turns.
