This little book is intended to give young saxophonists the opportunity og playing duets at an early stage. They can be played either by two students or by teacher and student. Each piece has its own challenges - those of rhythm, dynamics, phrasing and technical skill are all to be found. For example, the first duet, Allegro, is a study in accurate articulation; the second, Minuet and Trio concentrates on phrasing. In Dutch Clog Dance, the fifth duet, the emphasis is on staccato tonguing and dynamics. At the end of the book you will find a jolly exercise in articulation, rhythm and phrasing called Tyrolean Song. We hope, though, that as well as helping to develop good technique and good musical sense, these duets will be played purely for pleasure - both at home, in lessons, and at school. Also, we feel it is important for young players to help them acquire ensemble skills and, to this end, we hope that they will be played at concerts in which young players take part.
