Description

The Oxford Symphony is a perfect example of a late Haydn Symphonu: it is rich in appealing themes, ingenious counterpoint and it shows an absolute mastery in the form aof a a classical symphony. Haydn composed this work (Hob.I.92) for Count d'Ogny in Paris around 1788. The first performance took place in Oxford in 1791. In order to facilitate a good performance by 8 saxophones some changes were made, like a change of key from G to Wb, as well as a few cuts. We with to thank Alex de Leeuw, who teaches saxophone and is a member of the Netherlands Saxophone Quartet, for advising with this arrangement and for trying it out with a group of his students.
