This transcription of the six suites for violincello by J.S. Bach is very demanding for the editor even if it is intended for an instrument of the same register. This is due to the fact that there are only to copies but no manuscript and a number of versions from various cellists have all had different interpretations. The main problem is to either choose that note from a chord that best illustrates the harmony or to resolve a chord in arpeggios without disregarding the voice leading. Any future bassoonist can not only develop their technical skills with these suites but he/she can practise particulary how to breath in a musically sensible way. Since there is no piece for bassoon solo of such musical importance it is worth the attempt addapting it. The present elaboration by Nikolaus Maler may not be the only one. It certainly offers a possible solution, hence I welcome this effor very much! - Klaus Thunemann
