Victor Bruns' compositional style, which has its roots in the Russian traditions he absorbed in his early youth, is musical through and through. The compositional thoughts thrive on the desire to create stories - flourishing cantilenas and concise, manageable rhythmic ideas dominate.
Bruns' instrumental concertos are particularly attractive, with their demanding, virtuoso solo parts - especially that of the bassoon concertos - always designed to suit the instrument, but never aimed at superficial showmanship.
