Description
The songs based on texts by Adolf Friedrich von Schack were published for the first time in the years 1886-1888. The composition dates are not known. In op. nos. 15, 17 and 19, almost all of the texts used by Strauss were written by Schack; he only interpolated the Michelangelo madrigal in op. 15. Strauss dedicated the song Heimkehr to his aunt Johanna Pschorr, an alto.
