Scenes from the Andalusia - Tuba and Piano

This piece was written at the request of tuba virtuoso, Sergio Carolino, to premiere at his Gravissimo! Festival in Portugal in August of 2019. I had previously written a complete ballet based on the novella, Carmen, by Prosper Merimee which was mounted by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 2005. I found a wealth of material I could excerpt from the ballet which could be transcribed into a piece for tuba and piano, especially since the piece was being premiered in Portugal and the themes were in the Spanish style. I chose three themes to transcribe and expand upon: Soldier's March, Gypsy Fortune Teller, and Bullfight.
