Description
Mozart wrote this little opera at the age of 12, in 1768, for a small garden theatre of a friend of the family. It was first performed there by amateurs as entertainment for guests. The libretto was a German version by Friedrich Wilhelm Weiskern of a French operetta, "Les amours de Bastien et Bastienne," which was based on a a play by Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
