Aaron Copland's Concerto for Clarinet and String Orchestra (with Harp and Piano) was composed over a one-year period in 1947-1948, with revisions the following year. First performance was by Benny Goodman, who had commissioned the Concerto, with the NBC Symphony conducted by Fritz Reiner in November 1950. Two movements, slow and fast, are connected by a cadenza. This "New Edition," issued in 2013, does not change the form of the work, but offers some alternative notes for the soloist, mostly higher, claiming that the alternatives come from the manuscript before revisions. The authoritative final version is still included. New Edition by Philip Rothman. Piano reduction by the composer.
