Debussy wrote the Premiere Rhapsodie on request, with piano accompaniment, for juries at the Paris Conservatoire in 1910. He orchestrated the accompaniment the following year. The Henle edition changes some notes that many players, teachers, and adjudicators will be familiar with from the Durand edition (our number 50560463), claiming justification from the sources. Petite Piece was written in 1910 for sight-reading tests at the Paris Conservatoire. In distinct contrast to the many-faceted Rhapsody, it resides in its own calm, legato neighborhood. This edition includes an introductory essay and editorial notes.
