This piece can be played by: 1. oboe, harpsichord and organ 2. oboe and organ (or piano) 3. organ solo In the orchestration of "Gabriel's Oboe", the legato orchestral strings accompany the solo oboe while the harpsichord provides a rhythm of repeated chords. Version 1 for oboe, harpsichord and organ is presented with a transcription of the orchestral string accompaniment for organ. This has been transcribed fairly exactly with doublings and part writing retained as in the original. Version 2 for oboe and organ assigns some of the repeated notes found in the harpsichord part to the organ accompaniment. Version 3 for organ solo allows the oboe part to be played in the right hand and accompaniment condensed to left hand and pedal. Repeated chords and/or pedal notes can be at the discretion of the performer. An attempt has been made to indicate the general effect of the original with some upper and lower pitches connedted, while inner notes of the chord are repeated. In the orchestral score I consutlted, measure 23, beats 3 and 4 indicate a G major harmony. However, most recordings use a B minor chord, as I have chosen to do so. -Wilma Jensen
