A professional percussionist who started writing music and became a highly regarded composer, Warren Benson (1924-2005) was best known for his band music, but wrote for other instrumental combinations, as well as choral and solo vocal music. His affiliations included the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Brevard Music Center, Mars Hill College, Ithaca College, and the Eastman School of Music. Concertino for Alto Saxophone was completed in 1954 and first performed by Sigurd Rascher in 1955. This version offers a piano reduction with the solo part. The original accompaniment for wind ensemble is available on rental direct from the publisher, Theodore Presser.
