Description

This book is for alto recorder (or sopranino recorder, or bass recorder reading treble clef.).

This classic method, written in the 1954 by Maria Trapp and the Trapp Family of "The Sound of Music" fame, is a very convenient, fast-moving, all-in-one introduction to the recorder, perfect for the adult beginner or for younger students with some musical experience. The player progresses from beginner to upper intermediate level throughout the book, which covers a full 2-octave chromatic range and includes technical exercises, solo tunes from folk songs to Baroque pieces, many duets, and several trios and quartets involving SATB recorders.

With the exception of bass parts in two ensembles at the back of the book, all music is in treble clef. Emphasis is placed on the fact that alto and bass recorders share the same fingerings and note names, so students may use this book with bass, but will need to learn to read bass clef independently.

This book can be used by brand-new music readers, but they should be supervised for a while by a musician, as music reading is presented more or less all at once.

Other features:

  • Posture, hand and finger position, and breathing tips
  • Full chromatic fingering chart with note references for C, F, and bass instruments
  • Trill fingering chart
  • Several common alternate fingerings, including F and F# for German instruments
  • Wooden recorder care tips
  • Discussion of the different instruments in the recorder family

Also available for soprano or tenor recorder.
