Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) was a French composer and conductor. Tomasi was born in Marseille, where his parents had moved from Corsica. Most of his musical training took place in the conservatories of Marseille and Paris. His conducting career extended from 1927 to 1956 and included extensive radio work in Paris. During the early 1930s he conducted classical programs for a shortwave service to French Indochina. Among Tomasi's compositions are operas, ballets, orchestral works, concertos, chamber music, choral music, solo songs, piano music, film scores, and music for radio programs. Some pieces employ content from Southeast Asia, from Provence, or from the island of Corsica. Tomasi composed Introduction et danse in 1949, originally for clarinet and chamber orchestra, soloist Louis Cahuzac. This version is for alto saxophone and piano.
