Duo - Sax Duet SA

Saxophone Duo is dedicated to Paul Harvey, who has worked to promote the proper use of the saxophone throughout his long career. In 1981 Paul Harvey was due to give a concert with his pupil Catherine Shrubsall (the other dedicatee). Finding that the repertoire was limited he appealed to Dr Jacob, with the present happy result. The composer wrote: 'The theme of the variations comes from Smallwood's Pianoforte Tutor, much used in Victorian and early Edwardian days. This little exercise was the first thing I ever learned to play.' - Gordon Jacob, 1982.
