Description
The Prima Donna's Album from G. Schirmer is a collection of 42 "celebrated arias from famous operas" by Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, Verdi, Gounod, Puccini, and several other masters. There is something for everybody (soprano-wise) - lyric, dramatic, and coloratura soprano arias. This collection was re-assembled every few years throughout the first half of the 20th century, and each edition - while keeping the majority of its contents the same - had a slightly different selection of arias. This particular collection, currently in print, is the 1956 edition, which appears to be the last one prepared. It features one aria from The Consul by Menotti, from 1950. Some arias have parallel English and original language singing texts. Others appear only in their original language, and a few (the selections by Smetana and Tchikovsky) appear only in English translations.
