Description

Giovania-Baptiste Gambaro's 18 studies for bassoon are among the most popular etudes for advanced students.

They were written around the turn of the 19th century, while styles were in transit between classical and romantic. These etudes occupy much of the same range, both dynamically and expressively, as the popular Milde Concert Studies, but in a much more distinctly classical (and Italian) style. These etudes are long (two pages or more), with numerous sections in nearly all of them, and they explore all key signatures up to four sharps and four flats.

These etudes were used by famous bassoon pedagogue Norman Herzberg, and are still in use by professors at top conservatories and music programs around the country.
