Description
This work, which Ravel originally composed for solo piano in 1899, and which was published at Demets, quickly achieved great success and has been one of the most popular works in the classical canon ever since. The critical edition of "Pavane" by Regina Back and Douglas Woodfull-Harris takes into consideration the various reprints of the original piano version as well as the handwritten score of the orchestral version of 1909 and the numerous reprints until Ravel's death in 1937. In the foreword the editors draw the history of the composition. The piano recording of the composer and the orchestral recordings which he had made during his lifetime were also used. A preface in English, French and German, facsimile pages and a critical report round off this important new addition to the Bärenreiter Urtext program.
