AT ODDS: A Suite for Solo Snare Drum was a prize winner in the 1989 Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest. Each of the four movements explores a particular odd meter. Mvt. I - Fives written in 5/4, 5/8, and 5/16 meter explores the various sounds and techniques of playing with brushes. Mvt. II - Sevens progresses from 7/18 to 7/8 to 7/4 projecting an ever enlarging heptagonal sensation, layering sevens on top of sevens. Mvt. III - Elevens written in 11/8 meter, investiages the subtle nuaces and various effects possible with the multiple bounce roll. Mvt. IV Thirteens is a showcase for non-stop "machinegun" style rudimental drumming in 13/8.
