Spectroscope For unaccompanied cello Spectroscope is dedicated to and written for the cellist Philip Sheppard who gave the first performance in a concert at the Royal Academy of Music in 1987. Its Wigmore Hall debut was given by the American cellist Lynn Harrell in the same year. A spectroscope is a scientific instrument that enables us to analyse the various components that make up the spectrum of light with all its array of different colours. In this work for solo cello the musical ideas and colours are revealed under the 'spectroscope' of the composer's pen. Duration: ca. 11' 30"
