This famous solo was composed for the graduation and solo competition for the Paris Conservatory in 1899. Its great use of the clarinet has made it a favorite ever since then. The work includes technical opening, a beautiful Andante, a great cadenza, and a technical finale. This edition is in the Jeanne Master Class Series. It includes extensive performance suggestions and high register fingerings by John Anderson. Among the various editions available, it includes by far the most spacious and legible printing of the cadenza, which is small and overly compressed in other editions.
