Even after its completion, I cannot let go of the final lines of the Scorpio human from my Babylon opera: he kills the illusion in itself (symbolically the scorpion points his sting at himself), and then in his higher form, the eagle, is born again; engraving, knowledge, metamorphosis, flight.
In compressed form I wanted to compose this situation and these lines again, but completely different: instead of for large orchestra, now for countertenor and three instruments, with completely different material and gesture vocabulary.
