This arrangement of some of the variations as studies for solo clarinet covers a wide range of technical abilities and is designed to encourage and stretch the progressing player with music that is both interesting and rewarding to play. Sergei Rachmaninov (1873 - 1943) originally composed his famous Rhapsody in the summer of 1934. It was the first work to be written in his newly completed and much loved home ''Senar'' by Lake Lucerne in Switzerland. The theme is the last of Paganini''s 24 Caprices for solo violin, which has been the inspiration for many other composers before and since Rachmaninov.
