"Conversacion Campesina" means a conversation between
two Puerto Rican peasants called "Jabaros" that sing in
the style of "Aguinaldo jabaro" and "Aguinaldo quinto al
aire". Elements of Puerto Rican folkloric music are heard
throughout the work. There also is a strong influence of
baroque music with the use of contrapuntal phrases. The
improvisatory and virtuosic passages, frequently played on
the Puerto Rican "cuatro" and acoustic guitar, are
given to the clarinet and bassoon, making this a
challenging and appealing addition to the chamber music
repertoire for these instruments. There are 3 movements
with a total duration of approximately 7 minutes. This publication, JP2128, is for clarinet and bassoon. See JP5154 for the edition for clarinet and bass clarinet. The Jeanne publication contains both a full score, usable
for early rehearsals and score study, but also
individual parts for clarinet and for bassoon that limit
page turns to only between movements.
- 1. Andante
- 2. Lento
- 3. Vivace
