Description

"Conversacion Campesina" means a conversation between two Puerto Rican peasants called "Jibaros" that sing in the style of "Aguinaldo jibaro" and "Aguinaldo quinto al aire." Elements of Puerto Rican folkloric music are heard throughout the work. There also is a strong influence of baroque music with the use of contrapuntal phrases. The improvisatory and virtuosic passages, frequently played on the Puerto Rican "cuatro" and acoustic guitar, are given to the clarinet and bassoon, making this a challenging and appealing addition to the chamber music repertoire for these instruments. The original part for bassoon was later transcribed for bass clarinet, with the approval of the composer, to provide an alternate version of the music. There are 3 movements with a total duration of approximately 7 minutes.

This publication, JP2154, is for clarinet and bass clarinet. See JP5128 for the edition for clarinet and bassoon.

The Jeanne publication contains both a full score, usable for early rehearsals and score study, but also individual parts for clarinet and for bass clarinet that limit page turns to only between movements.
