Level 5. These two dances grew from the tradition of celebrating major events in the lives of the hard-working settlers. The heavy "Clog Dance" was originally danced wearing wooden shoes. Today, clog dancers use metal-clad shoes to emphasize their rhythm and footwork. The song appears to have been named after the Honorable Rear Admiral Robert Digby, an English seaman and founder of the town of Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada. The lighter "Running Set" is the official name of the dance we know better as a barn dance, or round dance, danced with an outer circle of men and an inner circle of women. Instrumentation: piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 3 trumpets in C, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, percussion, strings 88555.
